Early Childhood Center (ECC)

Early Childhood Center (ECC)

Early Childhood Center (ECC)

Children turning five years of age on or before September 8 are eligible for Kindergarten and not ECC.

  • The Early Childhood Center is designed to serve special needs children and typically developing children in an integrated setting.
  • The ECC Program for 3 year-olds runs Monday through Thursday from 9:10-11:40 am
    • Children applying for this session must be three years of age by September 8.
  • The ECC program for 4- year-olds runs Monday through Friday from 12:25-2:55pm.:
    • Children applying for this session must be four years of age by September 8.

Classes are limited in size: 60% of the class is typically developing children, and 40% of the class presents with varying special needs.  Students who have received special education services and have met the appropriate age level goals, making them no longer eligible for services, will complete the school year but may not begin another year in the program under special education guidelines. He/she will be considered a peer model and will be expected to pay the tuition rate.

Application

Applications for admission as peer models are being accepted on November 18 for the next
calendar year. Acceptance is based on a first-come first-served basis. Students determined to
be “educationally at risk” due to environmental factors are given increased allowances to be
involved in the program. Should the Early Childhood Center receive more applications than
openings, a waitlist will be formed. Should an opening arise in the school year, students on the
waitlist will be notified in the order on the waitlist in the order in which we received the
application.

The ECC secures a few slots each year for at-risk students and can alter waitlist assignment
numbers due to at-risk nature or concerns.

  • The link to access the online application for the 2026-2027 school year will open on November 18th at 9 AM.

Annual Open House

The Open House is held yearly in October. We invite all Scituate Prospective and current preschool families to come and learn about the Early Childhood Center program. This provides an opportunity to meet the teachers and see the classrooms.

Developmental Screening Process
Developmental Screening is a brief check of a young child’s language abilities, play skills, fine
and gross motor control, and math concepts, including recognizing colors, shapes, counting,
size differences and classifying. All those who apply to the program will be asked to participate
in our screening process. The information gathered from screening assists us in creating
balance in classrooms and does not impact acceptance to our program. Screenings are
approximately 15 minutes in length and will be held in February.

Tuition
A non-refundable deposit of $200 is collected after acceptance to our program in April, serves
as a commitment to the school year program, and goes towards the balance of tuition. Tuition
balance is then divided into installment payment, which are paid throughout the school year.
Payment slips will be provided.

  • Tuition for the 3 year old AM session is $2,500 per year.
  • Tuition for the 4 year old PM session will be announced soon.

Online Payments
Online deposit payments can be made using UniPay, Scituate Public Schools’ Online Payment System
